Active Wellington with Forge

Hello Menu Maggers!

Well as I write this, uni has just gone back to classes and I, for one, couldn't be happier. Not because I'm a swot or anything, quite the opposite! Now I have a reason to not go out every night, but with the entertainment in this city it's a pretty weak excuse! Wednesdays in Wellington is the main mid-week night with The Nark returning to Alice & Wonderland, VineTime is rollin’ in the Terrace Bar with $3 bubbly before midnight (Garden Club complex), and Mighty Mighty always has something on. Every Thursday, Sandwiches is the key place to be with a variety of bass heavy regular events.

The gig everyone knows about (that's enough posters already guys) to open August is the one and only GZA (Wu-Tang) at SFBH on the 2nd. A legend in his own right he's about to release his 7th solo album. This gig will sell out so get tickets while ya can from 1-night.co.nz.

The following Friday is one for the DNB heads. Choose from the more mainstream Concord Dawn at Sandwiches or the underground Rumble And Scratch Birthday Bash at Bar Medusa. The return of Matt Harvey (CD) from, his now home Vienna, to NZ will cost ya $15 + BF from dashtickets.co.nz whereas Rumble & Scratch feat Agitate, Adamant, Faction, Dirty P, Hawk I, Chubbs & Emmalahoops is free before 11pm or $5 after. Personally I'd hit both! Saturday 6th you get a choice between Dubstep or Dub/Reggae with Filth Collins at Sandwiches or Reggae Revival - Vital Sounds Hi Fi in session at Happy Bar.

Saturday 13th sees the return of DNB bad man Gridlok (USA) to Wellington alongside a local favourite, Trei. This will, of course, be going down at Sandwiches and features a top notch support line up from the notorious Sly Fox Crew aka HAvAK (Seizure b2b Max) & Apt as well resident Frederick Crew menace Rythmatix. Plus special guests & up and coming Auckland producers Mize & Cosine and Danger MC.

If you've been hanging out for some top notch local hip-hop I cannot recommend Evil Mule enough. I was well impressed with their first album P-Hood Prophecies and their second album in is the works. To check out some of what they've been creating on head down to Bar Medusa on Friday August 19th to witness them live alongside Illuminartistry and MHB with support from DJ's Art Official, DJ Jaz and Ruckus! Oh and it's only $5.

Also on the 19th is future house and tech funk producer Dilby at The Terrace Bar with local support from Souladelic and Empyre as part of the Technique Tour. Since I mentioned Souladelic I should also mention that if you like your house check out Back On Track every 2nd Friday at The Terrace Bar with regular DJ's Souladelic, Heylady & Empyre plus guests.

Oh and during the holidays I made some mash-ups, as usual you can grab them for free from http://soundcloud.com/dj-forge/
