H-City News with Mandy

I hope everyone has some energy left after the super human epic-ness that was Soundscape. I bet Greg and James are already spinning ideas for the next one. Here at FEVAH FM we don’t snooze either. The brand new iPhone application has hit the stores to make listening to your favourite beats even easier when you’re on the road or on the slopes.

WHERE’S THE PARTY AT? I think we should use this month to have a look what H-City has to offer us outside of our usual club land adventures. What about heading to one of the many concerts and small gigs that come to town? We will have the Thomas Oliver Band and also I Am Giant both at Altitude in August.

Make your way to House on Hood Street and meet an interesting and pleasant mix of people from all walks of life for delicious pizza and beer at insanely good prices either Wednesdays for the student night Skint or Thursdays for the Beer club. Our FEVAH FM DJ’s are either on the decks or indulging. But if you need your regular dose of pumping beats, check out Porter Robinson (USA) and Cold Blank (USA) both at the Outback Inn on the same night, and supported by Audio Harassment, Tronik Dj’s , Jade Jarreau and more.

WHO’S THAT GUY? There is one man in Hamilton that we all refer to as the Godfather of DJ’s – Ric Rush. Whenever an event needs setting up, he is there to help. Anyone needs advice; he will come to your rescue. The man has mad skills and is by far one of the best and most versatile DJ’s I have ever come across. This all, with a humble attitude and deeply dedicated to his passion for music. Ric got his first turntables in 1990 and after exploring Hip Hop and demonstrating extraordinary abilities in scratching, he developed a love for house music and has been playing this genre in all facets since about 1998. He has developed his own, distinctive style and is able to give any genre the unique Ric Rush feel. Besides gracing the clubs with brands such as Booty Beats, you can listen to his awesomeness every Saturday from 4pm on FEVAH FM.

WHAT’S THAT SOUND? Medicate is the newly established brand by Hamilton’s long time drum and bass and dub step connoisseurs Hybrid (Adam Hohneck) , Kaon (Mike Blanchett) and Breadman (Thomas Bredin-Grey). Besides regular club nights with quality local and international guests, they also host a weekly show on Tuesday nights on FEVAH FM, details and show times are available from www.fevah.co.nz . The group goes to great lengths to always find outstanding artists and tunes and will teach you a lesson or two in quality sounds. And besides that they are remarkable human beings with big hearts and a genuine love for music.
