Magazines // August 2011 // MENU meets: Karn Hall
We chat to Karn Hall to see what he is up too!
MENU: Hey Karn, what’s been happening?
KARN: Hey Menu! Things have gone from busy to overdrive over the last six months. I’m full time on GeorgeFM hosting Selectah, 12-3pm weekdays, my event calendar is booked out months in advance and I manage the entertainment roster for a couple of venues around Auckland city. I also have been working closely with Adam B at Highlife Entertainment for whom I co-promote a couple of key events with! It fills the gap of any spare time I have as we track towards New Years Eve and the Highlife event held in Matakana.
MENU: Have you enjoyed the challenge of hosting Selectah on George FM?
KARN: Yes it has been and continues to be a fantastic creative outlet and learning experience. Going from one day a week to a full time daytime radio position was a big step but a move that I’m truly enjoying and revelling in at present.
MENU: In terms of music, what’s been rockin’ ya dial lately?
KARN: My radio repertoire is a pretty eclectic blend. I have been finding intelligent D&B going down pretty well and some funky analog mid tempo jams in the vein of A.Skillz and Featurecast. The likes of Katy B, Adele, Foster the People and Aeroplane make for a good daytime mix selection also. Archives of my radio show playlists can be viewed here: www.bit.ly/GeorgeFM_Selectah
MENU: Anything notable in the pipeline for you at the moment?
KARN: Aside from personal aspirations, the World Cup period is looking pretty large. I’m balls to the wall until October and then it will be New Years and 2012! Dun dun dun dun.
MENU: You’ve been a part of Smash Disco at Degree Bar for a couple of years, what makes it an enjoyable gig for you?
KARN: I always have heaps of fun playing there which is very important. If you’re not enjoying yourself, give it up, whatever you’re doing. I like the layout of the venue and the trainspotters who peer down from the second level. Perhaps they are checking out the girls too?! The crowd are non-pretentious and easy-going plus always down to party! The fact that Degree is free entry and on a corner site on the viaduct has always served it well, a trend I’m sure is set to continue!
The Edgetravaganza in Hamilton and the Nightcap All Ages event in Auckland were two of the highlight events of July and a tremendous way to kick off »
Hello Menu Maggers! Well as I write this, uni has just gone back to classes and I, for one, couldn't be happier. Not because I'm a swot »
