The Dark Beat with Dilby

Wow. What a month July has been! I have been playing up and down the country on my Technique Tour. Buddha Lounge in Tauranga enjoyed the tech house on the 9th and in Wanaka and Queenstown they were up for a bit of techno! Auckland received a treat with a huge outdoor rave up! Groove in the Wops tore up the wilderness 45 mins north of Auckland with standout sets from David Goldberg (Berlin) and Barton Strom (Antix). Other July highlights included Back On Track: Heylady’s Birthday Special , Ghetto Box feat. Jillionaire in Wellington and Tim Richards and Jamie White smashing 55 in New Plymouth.

Auckland wins big in August with Alex Smoke (UK) hitting town for Why So Serious? on the 19th at Third n Social with support from all your faves; Matt Drake, Philippa, Logan Baker, Murmur and more. Cheap Thrills takes over pretty much every bar in the super city on the 5th; the pick of the litter is Fort Street Union where Murmur present Tim Richards, Ditto*, Jamie White & Tom M and more.

Wellington hosts Back On Track at Terrace featuring Souladelic, Heylady, Empyre and guests. A new monthly night, From Europe With, launches at Sandwiches on the 4th with Zhenya Topov, Dougal Fox plus myself as a guest. On Saturday the 27th Mi Casa Su Casa features Auckland’s Logan Baker at Bettys; the first in a series of special events. The weekend of 19 and 20 August is Sandwiches birthday and the word is, “keep the Saturday free for house and techno from the Monkey Business crew”.

Gisborne’s DJ Hat is on tour and you can catch him in Napier, Hastings, Dunedin, Wanaka and Queenstown this month!

The Technique Tour continues my musical pilgrimage of NZ hitting Suitcase in Ohakune on the 13th and at Terrace Bar Wellington with support from Souladelic and Empyre on the 19th. Check facebook.com/dilbydj for more info, dates and prizes from Skullcandy.

Cutting his teeth in one of the best dance scenes in Australia has perfected his ability to play to a crowd but never compromise on his music selection. His sets are exciting but smooth, comprising mainly of Deep house and Techno, he also infuses his wide influences of styles from Down Tempo to Hip Hop and Dub.
