Magazines // October 2011 // Active Wellington with Forge
Hi again Wellington & Menu Magger's across the country!
Well it seems like THAT competition featuring 'The Odd Shaped Ball' has actually grabbed most of the country in a fever like grip. Being musically minded I tried to not let it grab me too, but it has! Part of the reason for this is that I've found an entertaining way to watch the games and that is The Alternate Rugby Commentary (ARC). The ARC is run by ex Radio Active DJ Jed-Eye who provides a humorous, witty commentary whilst still not lacking insightful comments on game play.
Complete with sound-effects and backing music provided by Mikkie D it adds a new dimension to the games esp for those who aren't avid rugby fans or don't care for the stale commentary provided on TV. There are 2 ways to check out these commentary's and both fit with the live coverage. You can either head down to the ARC base of operations which is The Green Man Pub or you can stream it at home via arcrugby.co.nz.
Right now that that's over lets talk about music.....

Because of that entry will be FREE and there's an exclusive mix CD for the first 50 through the door. Their last gigs have sold out so get in quick! As I always seem to mention a band gig as well I'd recommend checking out Shotgun Alley if ya haven't done so before. I've partied with these fellas on quite a few occasions an it's always a great night! Catch them on their album release tour at Bar Bodega on the 20th.
In 2006 a new sound was emanating from the UK of the 140 bpm variety,Dubstep was its name and shattering bass bins was its game.
In NZ this gave rise to Bassweight Recordings who released New Zealands first ever dubstep releases as well as bringing over major international artists. On October 28th to Celebrate 5 years of bass business Bassweight has put together a party of epic proportions featuring The Others from the UK. There's a huge lineup of NZ DJ's as well, 14 in total! Tickets for this monumental party are only $15 from dashtickets.co.nz. Also on the 28th indie elctro pop artist Disasteradio, D-Rad to his friends, returns to Wellington after an epic five month tour around the World and celebrates it by releasing his acclaimed album 'Charisma' on 12” black vinyl, the first vinyl release from A Low Hum.
Disasteradio's latest music video 'Gravy Rainbow' has almost clocked up half a million views and has spawned all sorts of freaks doing weird response videos and got featured on US cable TV show 'Attack of the Show' who did a cool profile on Disasteradio which you can watch on YouTube. His welcome home party is at SFBH.
