Deadmau5 - Ghosts N Stuff
Mau5trap Recordings (2008)
Being that this is the October issue of Menu Magazine and the 31st of this month is Halloween, I thought I would get into the theme and review a track that relates to the witching hour, from the creepiest mouse in existence... Deadmau5.
“Ghosts N Stuff” premiered without a vocal in October 2008. It was made especially for radio presenter Pete Tongs BBC Radio 1 Show “The Essential Selection” when Steve Angello and Deadmau5 were guests for a special live In Manchester DJ set. On its first draft it was titled “Hotel” as this is where Deadmau5 had made the track. But the title later changed to Ghosts N Stuff. It was officially released in this form on the 25th of November 2008 and was heavily consumed by DJ’s all over the world, however it had its second surge in club land and the pop charts when Rob Swire (of Pendulum fame) gave it a rousing vocal and it was re-released on Virgin Records on August 2009 complete with “man with sheet over his body” music video, a remix package from Nero and Sub Focus, plus extra bonus track “Moar Ghosts N Stuff” from the mouse himself. The track reached number 12 in the UK Singles chart.
In 2009, Deadmau5 was the best-selling artist on popular digital download website Beatport with more than 30,000 digital downloads with his singles "Not Exactly," "Faxing Berlin," and "Ghosts N Stuff.
Deadmau5’s own popularity status has grown by appearing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, appearing as himself in Gossip Girl and with the mouse head featuring on an episode of CSI Miami. Ghosts N Stuff has received exposure on US TV shows, Americas Best Dance Crew, Chuck, Teen Wolf, Gossip Girl and can be heard on the video games Need For Speed: Shift and DJ Hero 2.
On the local front in 2009 an Andy Crump bootleg of Ghosts N Stuff mashed up with P-Moneys number 1 NZ hit “Everything” also found its way into CD wallets all across Australasia.
Trick Or Treat everyone - Happy Halloween!
