Magazines // October 2011 // H-City News with Mandy
Hcity is standing black and looking rather pretty during RWC 2011. The official fan zone in Hood and Alexandra Street attract a lot of residents and visitors alike. I had the pleasure to meet our Prime Minister whilst he was in Hamilton at House – which happens to be my favourite local these days. You see, the man knows whats good for us ;-) I dressed up all proper and conservative (and blue) and I can assure you – it is not a good look for me.
Where's the party at? So what else do we have on offer for October here in Hcity? Quite a lot actually. Starting on Saturday, 1st October we have ANT TC1, the Dispatch Recordings label boss with finest UK Drum n Bass at Flow. In the following week New Blood – the club night returns to Monkeyfeather on Friday, 7th and then of course our beloved JAG Promotions first birthday party will be held on Satur, 8th October at Flow. Redial from Australia will be joining us for the celebrations. The Wednesday Theory is a new weekly event at Limestone. Diaz Grimm spoils us with a rather interesting and sometimes random mix of hip hop of all generations. Great way to finish the evening after $5 pizzas and beer at House. And don't forget about our Thursdays – Medicate and F8ck Yeah! - dubstep/drum n bass one week and electro the other. The are high quality events at next to no cost ($2 dollars on the door, but wicked drink specials). Static (former sekure) has managed to create a great atmosphere and let's be honest – sometimes you just feel like a bit of indie rock.
Most important event in October will be Spring Fevah – the Hardhouse edition which Fevah FM will hold together with Audio Addiction. You know that this is the recipe for a perfect hard house night – the same people that bring you London Hardhouse Reunion. Steve Ryan, Steve Norrie and Beyer will be playing a hommage to Solid Sunday and Terry Wizz (High Dosage) will add his special flavour supported from local Hardhouse DJ's and Hardhouse apprentices aka Manatees. This not to be missed gig will be on Friday, 21st October – your perfect start to the RWC Finals weekend at Flow. This will be the first of a series of Spring Fevah gigs before we are taking it outside again with Summer Fevah.
Who's that guy? The first round of the New Blood DJ competition has brought a winner forward – the very talented Euphoric Milk, the DJ formerly known as Leith Gibbons. Leith convinced with his unique style & technical abilities. Congratulations and I am sure we'll see you around a lot in Hcity's clubland and beyond. We'll be certainly be keeping an eye (and ear for that matter) on him and you might hear his beats more often on Fevah FM.
What's that sound? Most already know that Fevah is one of NZ's longest running dance brands. Besides iconic parties there is also one of the worldwide most regnised record labels, Fevah Records. Fevah is responsible for some of the biggest tunes in Hard House and Hard Trance – all starting in the late 90's and currently going from one strength to the next. A major part of Fevah's work is supporting New Zealands rising talents. Works from Maverik (Mark Williams) and Wellington based Luke H (Luke Hammington) are due for release shortly and even I finally finished an almost life long project. Watch this space! The excitement and anticipation are almost unbearable. On the Trance front English Quade77 have made their debut in NZ a while ago with their first releases on Fevah Records including “Rain”. Quade are delivering epic uplifting tunes. Check their tunes on our website www.fevah.co.nz as well.
I will be around the country for a bit in October, so might see you on a dance floor near you,
xx DrSuess.
