Basszone with Rhys Grosvenor

Well its end of an era. That's right, the home of Auckland dnb and dubstep for over 10 years is coming to a close. But don't think things are going to fizzle out to a dull ending. Oh no, quite the opposite. They will be going out with a bang!

Over the next 2 months copious amounts of the worlds top DJs will be grace the booths at Fu Bar and Zen. Krafty Kuts touches down on the 2nd and then Evol Intent drops by for their only NZ show the following weekend on the 10th. New Zealand's own Truth head into town on the 17th and to cap things off the one and only Goldie steps up on the 23rd for what coincides as Subtronix 15th Birthday. After that we still have October and the much anticipated Northern Bass NY event that will play host to the world’s top dnb DJ Andy C as well as Brookes Brothers and Chasing Shadows.

The other big new around the traps this month is that the long awaited Nero album, Welcome Reality, has been released on Chase & Status’s MTA label. There is a solid mix of dubstep, dnb, electro and other electronic dance floor orientated beats. Their much-famed Innocence track of course makes an appearance but this is far more than a one hit wonder album. It has something for almost any one and I’m sure you’ll be hearing some if not all of the tracks in the clubs and NY events before the year is out.

Moving over to things closer to 170, and we see RAM plowing ahead, past the 100 mark with the latest offering from one of their newest signings Hamilton. Brainstorm brings the undeniable RAM dance floor element to the release but backed with Echoes the release has a very well rounded feel to it.

Back to its chart topping best is Marky’s Innerground label. Some of dnbs most famous and high selling tracks of the early 2000s came off this label and its no surprise this current release is right back up there. Brainstorm produced by S.P.Y. and Marky himself has been in the bag of all the top DJs for months now and is now finding its way into the crates of those that have to pay for the their vinyl and mp3.

Turning attention closer to home and I’ve been keeping my ear close to the ground for all things kiwi and there’s a lot out there. Currently though I’d be pretty hard pressed to go past the producing talents of ChromaticNZ. This lad has a couple of tunes out and about already but I can tell you now it won’t be long before you see his name popping up on a few more labels. Next time you’re near a computer check out his soundcloud and while everything on there is pretty freaken good, I’d highly recommend giving Futurism and Pressure Dub a listen.
